Dear parents and carers
I am writing to inform you that Pimpama State Secondary College will be open tomorrow, Tuesday 11 March.
However, with the effects of Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred being felt across our community, many of our staff and their families have also been affected by this event. As a result, some classes may be combined tomorrow to manage staff absence. I encourage you to consider your family’s safety and circumstances when deciding if your child will attend school tomorrow.
It is important that we be alert to current conditions and ready to act quickly if the need arises. We will provide updates and information to families via email, SMS message and our school website regarding changes to our school operations.
Safety assessments
All required safety and risk assessments have been conducted and I can confirm it is safe for students and staff to attend our school in a supervisory capacity.
Student absences
Absences due to emergencies and natural disasters and when a school is closed or open for supervision only, will not be recorded on a student’s report card.
Transport services
If you need to send your child to school tomorrow, please check with your local transport service provider to confirm if their services will be operational.
Full school re-opening
I will continue to liaise with the Department of Education and emergency services and I will keep you informed of any developments, including when we expect our school to fully re-open. Up-to-date information on school closures is available from closures.qld.edu.au. Early childhood service closures are available on the service and temporary closure information website.
Monitoring the situation
Please continue to listen to our local ABC Radio service and monitor emergency services’ social media accounts for updates and advice. Information about current weather conditions can be found on the Bureau of Meteorology website at www.bom.gov.au. If you need immediate help, call Triple Zero (000) and remember, if it’s flooded, forget it.
Health and wellbeing
It is incredibly important that you take time to look after yourselves and your families. I encourage you to access the information available for parents and students to support health and wellbeing during these difficult circumstances.
Thank you for your ongoing support and I will keep you updated on the status of our school regularly.
Kind regards,
Megan RODERICK
Principal
